Community Projects

Welcome to our Community Projects Page. Our community service program reflects our  identity as Palauans; where the emphasis is on the community rather than the individual. This program is still in infancy at this point; however, we will keep this page as up to date as possible throughout our development process. Thank you!

Didall Project

BBC members have committed to a prison outreach project. The purpose of the Didall Project is to make “connections” with Palauans in incarceration (in the U.S.); creating  mutual relationships and support. We believe that each one of us go through different trials, but at the end of the day, we all need each other in order to get to the end of the tunnel. If you have a friend or relative in prison who can use a little “pick-me-up” during this difficult time, please contact us and we will initiate the connection process.

The integrity of each individual involved in the Didall Project is our top priority. This is our promise.

This project is headed by John “Lato” Tellei and Cephas Elechuus.

Volunteer

We are currently developing a community service program where we commit ourselves to several hours of volunteer work. Right now we are looking into Project Cure, a nonprofit organization based in Denver that collects donated medical supplies and ships them off to developing countries. Our first volunteer day is scheduled for May, 2010. Stay tuned for updates.

Discussion Nights

Dialogue is an important process that benefits each individual and the greater society. Discussion nights are meant to create dialogue through healthy discussions. Topics are tailored to specific interests or current issues.

Discussion I- Justice: The movie “Romero” was played followed by a discussion about justice, relating it to our home country. A prominent issue that was widely discussed was underage alcoholism (related to unemployment, drinking after games, etc.)

Discussion II- Independence and Government: We played the documentary film “Strategic Trust” followed by a lively reflection of the film and of the history around it (i.e. furlough, constitution, and grass roots involvement).

Discussion III- Any suggestions? One suggestion was a review of sports and the role it plays in our society, especially our youth. Is it a successful instrument? Does it create lasting impacts?  (concentrating on Palau).

Thank you and please post your suggestions, questions, or concerns regarding these programs.
